The story of Amaroo starts in 1994 when a group of local individuals saw a vast need within the area for their ageing family members. At this stage, to receive care many family members where having to leave the district to go as far afield as Albury, Narrandera and Hay. There was a need for more pragmatic, service focused providers who were willing to partner and grow within the community.
Since 1994 Berrigan & District Aged Care Association now governs the operations of Amaroo Aged Care, Amaroo Food Services, Amaroo Independent Living Village, and Berrigan & District Home and Community Support Services. Together these areas provide a wide range of services to the elderly and frail while supporting them to remain close to their family yet retaining their own levels of independence.
Amaroo Aged Care now comprises of 30 suites including the recently developed memory support wing. The Hostel provides dedicated care in a warm and homely environment. Each room has its own private en-suite, modern specialised furniture and garden or terrace access. All residents have committed lifestyle programs available with all daily needs such as laundry, cleaning, activities, bathing; just to name a few, taken care of.
The Amaroo Independent Living Units offer independence with peace of mind to those over the age of 50. Our open plan, spacious units are supported by our local community services with the Units neighbouring Berrigan Multipurpose Services, Berrigan Ambulance Services and Berrigan Medical Centre. They are also ideally positioned with the local shopping centre and sporting facilities being only a stone’s throw away. The Independent Living Units are a highly popular choice of lifestyle, and to meet demand the Association have recently completed building six more two and three-bedroom units.
As part of expanding the range of services available to the elderly in the community, our licensed kitchen became Amaroo Food Services. Amaroo Food Services is fast becoming the primary supplier of frozen and fresh meals to Berrigan and surrounding townships. It also continues to supply wholesome nutritious meals to the Berrigan Multipurpose Service and our own Hostel residents.
In 2015, the Association took over governance of the local area Home and Community Support Services. Berrigan & District Home and Community Support Services (HACSS) office is based at Finley Community Health Centre and is experiencing continual growth of clientele through the services we can provide.
Berrigan & District Aged Care Association aims to always maintain the upmost levels of service for all our customers and strives to place itself at the forefront of Aged Care.
